Polyethylene PE has a high degree of wear resistance, chemical inertness and has good electrical properties. Resists water, saline solutions, acids, alkalis, alcohol and petrol. It is normally used with temperatures between - 40 °C and + 80 °C and below + 60 °C PE is insoluble in all organic solvents.
Some types of high density PE may be suitable for the production of fuel oil containers and fuel tanks.
Being odourless, tasteless and physiologically harmless, it is suitable for use in the food sector.
PE is easily welded with traditional welding systems, however it presents gluing difficulties due to non-polarity and poor adhesion.
PE surfaces can be printed and painted.
Used in the mechanical, chemical, electrical, advertising and food sectors in the form of semi-finished products for tool processing, such as solid rounds, perforated rounds, tubes and sheets.
It produces equipment for the chemical industry, bins and containers, linings for hoppers and chutes, components for pumps, sliding elements, rollers, gears, sliding guides and cutting boards.
PE Polyethylene is FDA approved material.
Below are the different types of PE:
Polyethylene 300 - PE 300, whose molecular weight 300,000, similar to PE 500 but with greater rigidity and lower resistance to repeated impacts, is approved for use in contact with food.
Polyethylene 500 - PE 500, molecular weight 500,000, as well as being approved for contact with food, has a low specific weight and a very low friction coefficient. These characteristics, associated with good impact resistance and low price, make it a material widely used in the food and beverage industry, for the construction of transports, sliding guides, etc.
Polyethylene 1000 - PE 1000, molecular weight 1,000,000 combines the characteristics of PE 500 with high impact resistance. Also suitable for use in humid environments or in contact with water, being a non-hygroscopic material. It is used for the construction of augers and mechanical parts, when good smoothness and resistance are required.
